Our Story

From 19th-century British roots to a modern, multicultural community hub, cricket has always found a home on the Island.

Early Roots & Decline

Cricket has a long and colorful history on Prince Edward Island, dating back to the early 19th century. As noted by Professor Richard Raiswell, the game’s early appeal was closely tied to its British and English roots.

While popularity declined over time, its spirit never disappeared. It was waiting for the right moment to be reborn.

2007: The Spark

A New Beginning in Stratford

A small group of passionate enthusiasts gathered in Stratford to revive the sport. Led by a mix of immigrants from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, and Australia alongside local Island-born residents.

"Onlookers jokingly referred to it as baseball played the wrong way."

With support from Ron Fisher (Stratford Recreation), the seeds of Cricket PEI were planted.
